Broken Images

Title: Broken Images
Medium: Mixed Media
Dimensions: 12½” x 15”

Broken Images is a deeply personal mixed media piece built around a truth I’ve felt often that words, even when casually spoken, can leave invisible scars. Inspired by the phrase, “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words are ghosts that haunt me,” this artwork explores the emotional damage caused by careless or hurtful speech, especially when it comes from those closest to us.

At the center of the piece is a girl, vulnerable and exposed. Her image is partially obscured by a cracked frame, symbolizing how broken words can distort one’s self-image and confidence. The frame itself becomes a metaphor, a barrier between how she is seen and how she truly feels inside.

This piece speaks of emotional pain that isn't always visible, yet is quietly carried. Through layered textures, symbolic elements and raw composition, Broken Images gives shape to hurt that lingers, not through actions but through words.
