Footwear
Title: Footwear
Medium: Mixed Media (Paper Mâché and Plaster)
Dimensions: 10” x 9½” inches
Foot Wear is a mixed media sculpture that captures the discomfort of not fitting in, both physically and emotionally. The work features a plastered leg forced into a shoe, symbolizing the difficulty I experienced trying to belong in spaces that never felt made for me.
The surface is marked with haunting motifs, painted eyes, lips and mouths; representing the many voices, stares and unspoken judgments I faced during a painful time in my school life. Each ripple in the plaster holds memory: layers of anxiety, isolation and emotional scarring that I had no words for back then.
This sculpture isn’t just about pain; it’s about transformation. Like a broken bone healing beneath a cast, I eventually grew stronger. Foot Wear is a deeply personal piece about trauma, resilience, and what it means to carry the weight of being misunderstood and still find your footing.
